I suppose Moosend was taking a leaf out of Mailchimp’s book when they came up with the name for their email marketing software?
Though not quite on the same scale as Mailchimp, Moosend has seen a sharp rise in popularity in the US since September 2021. No doubt this is a result of its acquisition by Sitecore, an American software company, which took place in May of the same year.
With the potential to become a serious player in the email marketing world, it’ll certainly be interesting to see where this startup from Greece goes from here!
But what about the actual product? How does it perform, and will it serve your email marketing strategy? This detailed Moosend review will answer all of these questions and more as I take a deep dive into the email marketing software.
Moosend Review Summary
Moosend is a great option for those mindful of their email marketing budget, offering affordability without compromising functionality.
With plans starting at just $9 a month, users gain access to essential email marketing features such as the drag-and-drop email builder, landing page builder, detailed reporting, and automation. It's also possible to purchase pay-as-you-go credits, however, the smallest bundle is priced at $350, so it's not very accessible to small businesses.
But what truly sets Moosend apart in my eyes, is its automation capabilities. Alongside the standard visual workflow builder, users can build sequences with specific conditions, a feature that’s handy for many industries (e.g.affiliate marketers).
For instance, users can create personalized sequences for subscribers based on their interactions, such as clicks and actions. Additionally, Moosend recently introduced an AI-powered product recommendation tool, improving the overall user experience.
And what makes its automation capabilities even more attractive is the price. Marketing automation is often seen as a pro feature, reserved for higher-tier plans. However, Moosend gives you access for as little as $9/month. Nice that they have kept this accessible.
Another one of its key features is reporting. But is this enough to sway you? Read on to find out all the pros and cons of using Moosend as your email service provider.

Pros and Cons
Pros
Cons
Pros
Pro features included at affordable price
Advanced features such as multi-step marketing automation workflows, tracking and SPAM and design testing are all included for as little as $9/month, as well as unlimited emails.
Fast and helpful support
Support agents are on hand via live chat, which you can access from inside the editors. Responses are pretty immediate, in my experience, and have been helpful in resolving the questions I had.
Excellent reporting
The reports are detailed and well laid out, including a click heatmap, geolocation insights and information on email clients and devices.
Track website visits
Lets you track website visits, which in turn can trigger automations. Not many ESPs offer this.
Transactional emails
Moosend supports transactional email options.
Cons
The signup form templates aren’t brilliant
The signup form and landing page templates could all do with an update. I’d also like to see more of a selection for the form templates, as you can only create newsletter subscription forms.
No free plan
Unfortunately, Moosend removed its freemium plan, which was pretty generous.
Is Moosend the right newsletter service for you?

You’re looking for an affordable email marketing service
With unlimited emails, pro features and branding-free emails, Moosend is an interesting email marketing service.
You’re in need of excellent marketing automation templates
The 18 templates offered are detailed and varied, meaning you can set up a number of time-saving workflows in a few minutes.
You need detailed reports
Offering a whole host of information, Moosend’s reports feature everything you need, including click maps, geolocation, revenue generated by campaigns and email clients.
You’re looking for an all-in-one tool
There’s no CRM, and compared to other email services, there aren’t many direct integrations with third parties available.
You’re looking for an emailing service with excellent deliverability
Moosend scored just averagely in our email deliverability tests. A better alternative at a similar price point would be MailerLite.

Ease of Use
It’s simple to get started, with a 4-step checklist and a chat widget available from every section. It’s generally easy to find things, although the “More” menu item is a bit of a random catch-all.
The tool isn’t complex to use but there were a few usability issues, such as some options looking like they are greyed out and not accessible (when in fact they are). Sometimes when you exit a screen, it doesn’t take you where you expect it to.
We didn’t love the editor, which we found glitchy and unpredictable. While there are a decent range of content blocks (including product blocks and countdown timers), they don’t always drag to where you want them to, and it’s way too easy to mess up the layout.
However, their “collaboration” feature is unique, letting team members add comments to each other’s email designs. This allows users to add and reply to any feedback, notifying users whenever their teammates add suggestions.
Personalization Info popup
You can add custom fields to the subject line and email body. Dynamic content is also available using conditional visibility blocks, and you can even show product recommendations and abandoned cart reminders conditionally.
Message Types
Marketing emails
Transactional emails
SMS
Web push
Mobile push
Live chat / conversations
Includes marketing emails such as newsletters, autoresponders, A/B testing, and automated workflows.
Transactional emails such as password resets and order confirmations are only available as an add-on to the Moosend+ plan.
Choice and Flexibility of Template Designs Info popup
While there are over 130 email templates available, they could do with a little refresh from a design perspective.
We liked that you can save layouts and templates, and upload your own HTML. However, we couldn’t find how to save fonts and colors so they would be applied to all templates, which would have been a huge timesaver.
Email Marketing Automation Info popup
For a seemingly simple tool, the automations are pretty impressive. There are 18 templates and the visual automation builder is well-designed.
You can trigger automations based on email opens and clicks, as well as page or product views. Lead scoring is possible using a combination of custom fields and adding/decreasing values.
You can also use automations to update custom fields, and add or remove tags. There are even weather-related automations available!
However, CRM automations are only possible through webhooks, and are limited to updating field values (e.g. if someone complains).
List Management Info popup
You can import contacts through file uploads, or directly from Google Contacts and Salesforce.
The segmentation templates offered really speed things up, and it’s possible to set up custom segments. Impressively, AI-powered Audience Discovery tags are applied based on customer interest and purchase intent.
Duplicate contacts are automatically removed. However, there’s no easy way to find and remove inactive contacts who haven’t engaged in a while.
Registration Forms/ Opt-in & Opt-out- Process Info popup
There are plenty of fully customizable signup form templates, which you can add your own custom fields to directly in the form builder. You can add the form by embedding the HTML, or you can connect your site and publish it directly.
Moosend also offer a “wheel of fortune” form type, and let you set conditional rules for showing/hiding form.
However, options to A/B test your form are not available.
AI Features
Email and subject line copy
Email design
Product recommendations
Send time optimization
Segments and workflows
Win probability
Moosend offers an AI writer for emails, subject lines, landing page and subscription form copy.
The AI-powered Audience Discovery feature can also build segments based on product views, add-to-cart events, and purchases (although this is only available on the Enterprise plan, or as an add-on on the Moosend+ plan).
Moosend doesn’t offer any content monetization tools, and is therefore not recommended for anyone looking to monetize their newsletters or sell digital products/memberships.
Deliverability Features Info popup
Moosend offers full SPF alignment and clear guidance for DMARC setup, helping users stay compliant with sender standards. Deliverability support is hands-on and includes consultation calls. Moosend also filters out bad data at import, integrates with cleaning services, and offers IP warmup guidance – great for senders who want a strong technical foundation.
Authentication Info popup
Provides records and instructions for setting up SPF, DKIM and DMARC authentication.
Reports and Analysis
Moosend’s reports give you all the info you need on your email campaigns, and you can deep dive with data on clicks, devices, browsers, and geolocation. However, you can’t filter out bot clicks or Apple MPP opens.
We like that you can easily share reports with your team with no-password-needed links, and export and download reports. It’s also possible to customize your reporting dashboard with around 50 widgets to choose from.
You can also track campaign revenue, and access reports on landing pages, forms, and automations.
Languages and Localization Info popup
Multilingual support isn’t Moosend’s strong suit. While the platform is available in 7 languages (including DE, FR, and ES), support is only available in English, and is only available Mon-Fri.
Spam and Design Testing Info popup
Unlike most providers, Moosend provides spam testing features for free. It checks emails against filters of major ISPs (Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail etc.), as well as calculating a Spam Assassin score, although we found this quite slow in our testing.
While you can send test emails and see a mobile version of your email, you can’t preview emails across different email clients, or preview the email as an individual subscriber.
Own Domain Info popup
Yes, Moosend allows users to use custom domains for landing page links.
Different levels of account access Info popup
You can add Team Members with 6 levels of access to choose from, and it’s also possible to add clients (a feature we haven’t seen in many other platforms).
Integrations
It’s a very thin list, made up of just 18. Missing website and ecommerce builders and major CRMs.
Landing Page Builder Info popup
The mobile responsive templates follow the same design themes as the email templates, so you can replicate the same branding.
Migration Support
Unfortunately there’s not a lot in the way of migration support, which mostly seems reserved for Enterprise plan users. However, there is an integration between Mailchimp and Moosend to transfer campaigns and subscribers.
Customer Support
The knowledge base is comprehensive, and both chatbot and live support provide detailed responses, with chat transcripts getting sent via email.
However, 24/7 support isn’t offered – it’s only available Monday to Friday.
An account manager is available only on the Moosend+ plan.
Overall rating
4.0
Moosend is a capable and affordable email marketing tool that delivers more than you’d expect for its simplicity — particularly when it comes to automation, reporting, collaboration features, and deliverability support.
We recommend Moosend to lean marketing teams or agencies who want a strong automation engine at a fair price. However, it’s not ideal for creators focused on monetization or users who need deep CRM or ecommerce integrations.
Moosend Mobile App
Moosend just released its mobile app version of the software. This mobile app gives marketers everything they need to access, edit and preview their email marketing campaigns.
With their mobile app, you can do the following:
View, duplicate, or delete any of your campaigns
View different campaign folders ie. Draft, Scheduled, Sent
Edit your email campaign settings
Choose a list or segment
Send or schedule a campaign
Users will be able to access all their campaigns
Send a test email campaign
Access reports
Activate email automation campaigns
Edit landing page and signup forms
As you can see, the Moosend mobile app is an extremely convenient new feature for their customers helping them to manage their email marketing tasks on the go.
AI Writer
In addition to this, users can now take advantage of their AI-driven text suggestions to enhance their email campaigns by generating ready-to-use texts for campaign subject lines, preview text, and other text items, including landing pages and subscription forms. With the ability to generate text based on specified keywords and purpose options, this feature adds a new level of efficiency for users.
Conclusion
Given its extensive reporting capabilities, user-friendly interface, and new and powerful audience discovery features and form templates, Moosend stands out as a great choice for small businesses and entrepreneurs seeking an affordable and effective tool to up their email marketing game. Although there are some limitations in integrations, the inclusion of unlimited emails across all plans definitely enhances its appeal.
