As far as newsletter platforms go, there aren’t many that cater to content creators, bloggers, and writers as completely as Beehiiv. Combining a publishing platform, website builder, and email marketing service in a single tool, Beehiiv has proven a popular choice with creators looking to monetize their content in a streamlined way.

At EmailTooltester, Beehiiv is one of our highest-rated tools for newsletter creators, ranked ahead of popular alternatives such as Kit and Substack. But with four different plans to choose from, and a sizable price jump from its free plan to its lowest paid tier, you might be wondering whether it’s worth your investment.

In this Beehiiv pricing guide, we’ll help you get your head around all the options so that you can make the right choice for your newsletter!

Beehiiv Pricing at a Glance

Beehiiv offers a limited free plan, Launch, for up to 2,500 subscribers and unlimited email sends, which is a great way to get a feel for the platform and decide if it’s right for you. Paid plans start at $39/month for the Scale plan, which adds monetization features, surveys, A/B testing, and AI.

The Max plan starts at $99/month, giving you extra perks such as the ability to move Beehiiv’s branding from your publications, priority support, and access to their NewsletterXP course. There is also an Enterprise plan for those with 100k+ subscribers, with custom pricing.

On the Scale and Max plans, prices go up once you start having more than 1,000 subscribers. Annual discounts are available.

Beehiiv Launch Plan (Free)

Beehiiv’s free Launch plan is more generous than most of the other free plans we’ve come across, allowing you to send unlimited emails to up to 2,500 subscribers. It also comes packed with an impressive amount of extras, including:

  • Website builder: This lets you create a landing page to capture newsletter signups and showcase published articles. It’s also possible to connect a custom domain to your Beehiiv website.
  • Multiple publications: With Beehiiv, you can create a maximum of 3 newsletters, with an unlimited number of posts.
  • Recommendation network: Cross-promote other newsletter to your subscribers, and get recommended in return.
  • Tagging and segmentation: Organize your subscribers into segments based on their behavior and characteristics.

What you don’t get, however, are the following features:

  • Monetization features: The free plan doesn’t let you sell subscriptions, sponsorships, or profit from Beehiiv’s Boosts feature (more on that below).
  • Email automations: You won’t be able to set up triggered campaigns like welcome emails to new subscribers.
  • A/B testing: It’s not possible to A/B test emails with Beehiiv’s free plan. These require an upgrade to any paid plan.
  • Surveys or polls: You won’t get access to audience engagement tools such as web surveys, or one-click polls that can be directly integrated within your newsletter - again, these are reserved for paid plans.
  • AI tools: Also missing from this plan are Beehiiv’s AI writing assistant, image tool and translator, which require the Scale plan or higher.
  • The ability to remove Beehiiv branding: A “Powered by Behiiv” image will display in the footer of your newsletters. You’ll need to upgrade to the Max or Enterprise plans to remove this.

The free plan is great for small lists, or if you’re just starting out. However if you need access to the free plan’s missing features, or have more than 2,500 subscribers, you’ll need to upgrade to a paid plan. Let’s explore these in more detail.

Beehiiv Scale Plan

Beehiiv’s Scale plan is the cheapest of Beehiiv’s paid plans, and is ideal for creators who are starting to grow their list and want to be able to monetize their content.

But with prices starting at $39/month for 1,000 subscribers, it does represent a significant bump up from the free plan. Compared to other email marketing services that offer similar features, it’s also a little pricier (MailerLite and Kit, for example, charge between $15-29/month for a list of 1,000 subscribers).

However, the Scale plan could be an interesting option if you’re after the following features:

  • Unlimited email sends and posts: Most email marketing services restrict the number of emails you can send per month (or charge you more if you exceed the limit). Beehiiv doesn’t do this - instead, it gives you unlimited email sends each month. Same goes for newsletter posts - you can post as many as you like across a maximum of 3 publications/newsletters.
  • Premium subscriptions: Beehiiv allows you to sell monthly, annual, or one-off subscriptions to your subscribers, and won’t charge any fees (you’ll just have to pay Stripe’s standard payment processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction.).
  • Ad networks and Boosts: Beehiiv offers additional monetization channels, including the ability to sell ad placements in your newsletter, and earn newsletter referral fees through the Boosts network.
  • Growth tools: Gain more subscribers through a variety of channels, including your own referral program, and through Beehiiv’s ad and Boosts networks. You’ll also get access to Magic Links, which allows for one-click signups from emails sent from other email marketing tools (e.g. from a partnering newsletter).
  • Automations: The Scale plan lets you set up welcome series, upgrade emails, drip campaigns and other automated flows. However, it’s not possible to set up transactional emails such as cart abandonment or order confirmation emails.
  • 3d analytics: Beehiiv’s advanced analytics lets you understand more about your most profitable subscribers, and where they come from.

Note that with the Scale plan, you’ll only ever be able to have a maximum of 100,000 subscribers. Any more than that will require an upgrade to the Enterprise tier.

Beehiiv Max Plan

The Max plan gives you all the perks of the Scale plan, with a few extras:

  • 10 publications: If you’d like to create more than 3 publications/newsletters, the Max plan is the one you’ll need.
  • Priority support: Submitting a ticket is currently the only way of getting in touch with Beehiiv support; however, the Max plan typically includes faster response times than you’d get on the lower-tier plans.
  • Remove Beehiiv branding: Eliminate beehiiv's logos and other branding elements from your newsletters and other communications.
  • NewsletterXP Course: Get access to Beehiiv’s renowned online course, which takes you through how to create and monetize a newsletter.

Considering that prices start at $99/month for 1,000 subscribers, it’s a steep price to be paying for just a handful of additional features. The biggest draw of this plan over the Scale plan is the ability to have up to 10 publications, but if this is your case, your list sizes are also likely to be on the larger side. This has the potential to run your monthly bill up into the hundreds – so it’s worth comparing the numbers to understand if there are more cost-effective options for you.

Beehiiv Enterprise Plan

The Beehiiv Enterprise plan provides customized support to users with lists of over 100,000 subscribers. This includes personalized assistance to help you get started with the platform, migration assistance, a designated account manager, and a dedicated IP address.

This plan is targeted at publishers or media organizations looking for a white-labelled solution for publishing their newsletters. Pricing is available on request.

How Does Beehiiv’s Pricing Compare to Other Email Marketing Platforms?

Considering Beehiiv’s niche features, there are really only a handful of email marketing services that we consider to be direct competitors, including Kit, Substack, GetResponse, and MailerLite. So, let’s see how Beehiiv’s plans stack up to theirs in terms of cost-effectiveness.

Beehiiv vs Kit

A longtime favorite of bloggers and content creators, Kit offers a very similar feature set to Beehiiv. That includes paid subscriptions, automations, and a Creator Network that allows you to recommend other newsletters (and receive recommendations in return). But there are some extras that you won’t get with Beehiiv, including a landing page builder, and the ability to sell digital products.

Kit’s free plan has a generous allowance of 10,000 subscribers, plus unlimited emails, forms, and landing pages.

Kit offers two paid tiers: Creator and Creator Pro. The Creator plan is most similar to Beehiiv’s Scale plan in terms of inclusions - so let’s see how they compare on the pricing front:

Beehiiv Scale plan Kit Creator plan
1,000 subscribers $39 monthly $29 monthly
2,500 subscribers $59 monthly $49 monthly
5,000 subscribers $79 monthly $79 monthly
10,000 subscribers $99 monthly $119 monthly
25,000 subscribers $149 monthly $199 monthly
50,000 subscribers $199 monthly $379 monthly
100,000 subscribers $299 monthly $679 monthly

As you can see, while Beehiiv’s pricing starts off higher for smaller lists, it actually becomes the more affordable option once your list grows to over 10,000 subscribers. So if you don’t plan on selling digital products directly through your email tool, Beehiiv might work out cheaper for you.

Beehiiv vs Substack

Like Beehiiv, Substack markets itself as a newsletter platform aimed specifically at writers, offering built-in tools such as a website builder (where you can customize a home page, sign up page and upgrade page) ), payment system, and even podcasting and video tools. However, its emphasis on email marketing is a lot more limited - you won’t get access to subscriber data, segmentation, or email automations, for example.

That said, Substack is an interesting option if all you want is a tool for sharing stories and building a community around your content. And until you start offering paid subscriptions, it’s completely free to use.

However, once you move into paid subscriptions, Substack will take a significant cut of your sales, charging a 10% fee per subscription, as well as a 0.5% billing fee for recurring subscriptions. On top of that is the payment processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction.

While you’ll also have to pay processing fees with Beehiiv, they won’t take a cut of your sales. In the long run, this could prove the more profitable option.

Learn more about how Beehiiv compares to Substack.

Beehiiv vs GetResponse

Thanks to its ever-growing range of email marketing tools and automations, GetResponse has become one of our highest-rated ESPs here on EmailTooltester. Recent additions to its toolkit include premium newsletters and an AI-powered course generator, making it an appealing option if you’re looking to monetize your content.

However, these tools come at a cost. To sell premium newsletters, for example, you’d need the Content Monetization plan, starting at $69/month for 1,000 contacts – almost double the cost of Beehiiv’s Scale plan!

These costs may be justified if you also plan to sell online courses - but if not, Beehiiv is a lot more affordable. Learn more in our GetResponse pricing guide.

Beehiiv vs MailerLite

If you want to save costs, and don’t mind skipping out on Beehiiv’s recommendation and referral features, then MailerLite is your best choice. It’s one of the cheapest email marketing tools on the market – and yet, its feature range also happens to be one of the most comprehensive.

This includes the ability to sell paid newsletter subscriptions, as well as other digital products and services. And with a subscriber list of 1,000 setting you back just $15/month on its Growing Business plans, you could save yourself hundreds each year by choosing MailerLite over Beehiiv.

Final Thoughts on Beehiiv Pricing

To sum up: Beehiiv offers a comprehensive solution for newsletter creators, especially those looking to monetize their content in various ways. While the free Launch plan is a generous starting point, upgrading to the Scale or Max plans unlocks a wealth of advanced features like premium subscriptions, ad networks, and powerful growth tools.

Though Beehiiv's pricing can start off steep compared to other email marketing platforms, it becomes more competitive as your subscriber base grows. And once you start making money, your money is all yours with no extra fees being charged.

If you're a creator focused on monetization and community-building, Beehiiv is well worth considering. But for those starting out and looking to save on costs, exploring alternatives like Substack, MailerLite or Kit might be the better route.
