Have you ever heard of Flodesk? If you prioritize design in your business and email marketing campaigns, chances are you have.
What's Special About Flodesk?
Founded in 2018, Flodesk emerged as an email marketing platform that aimed to help users send beautiful, and functional emails without the overwhelming complexity often associated with more established platforms. The tool is mostly known for its unique email designs and minimalist interface.
Over the years, Flodesk has garnered a loyal fan base of over 100,000 customers, who swear by its simplicity and aesthetic appeal – despite competing in a crowded market with so many email marketing tools. It’s especially popular among solo entrepreneurs and small businesses who want to effortlessly create eye-catching newsletters.
My Own Experience With Flodesk
I've been using Flodesk for about three years now to send monthly emails to a list of over 5,000 subscribers. When I was searching for an email marketing tool, I found that most services charged way too much for a list of that size, especially since I wasn't making any money from my personal newsletter.
Back then, Flodesk's flat-rate plans offered stable pricing that made sense to me, so I could focus on my content without worrying about sudden price hikes. Plus, I loved how simple and beautifully designed everything was!
While I'm still happy with my choice, I know Flodesk isn't for everyone. Since I have firsthand experience, I'm here to give you an honest and detailed look at what this tool offers — and where it falls short.
It's also worth noting that Flodesk's flat rate pricing is no longer available to new customers – somewhat reducing its appeal to cost-conscious users.
I hope this Flodesk review helps you decide if it's is the right tool for you (or not!).
Flodesk Review: Summary
Flodesk offers great features and stunning, easy-to-use designs to simplify email marketing. The platform includes an intuitive email builder, beautiful templates, a checkout page for digital products and subscriptions, and cool automation capabilities.
After removing its popular flat-rate plans in December 2025, it now offers tier-based pricing that increases as your subscriber list grows. The Lite plan starts at at $25 per month for 1,000 subscribers, and the Everything plan (which includes digital product selling features) starts at $54 per month (annual discounts are available).
Flodesk is primarily aimed at small businesses and solo entrepreneurs, as it lacks some advanced features, such as automations with multiple triggers and email testing (e.g. A/B testing, spam tests).

Note: Flodesk promotes a “Free plan” in their website under pricing, but this does not refer to their email marketing tool which is why we are not listing it here. For email marketing, they only offer a 14-day trial.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Cons
Pros
Stunning email designs
Flodesk’s templates are beautiful and make it easy to create unique, professional emails quickly. While all templates are easily customizable, certain pre-built layout sections might be a bit annoying to edit, since tweaking them too much can mess with Flodesk’s original design idea.
User-friendly interface
Flodesk’s editor has a clean, intuitive, minimalist interface. It is easy and fun to play around with, and ideal for beginners.
E-commerce features
Flodesk’s Checkout Page allows you to sell digital products and newsletter subscriptions online, and the best news is that they take no cut of your earnings – you only pay the regular Stripe processing fee. You can integrate thousands of third-party apps through Zapier and if you have a Shopify store, it takes just a few clicks to bring your customer list into Flodesk. You can use the Checkout Page feature even if you’re not on the Checkout plan – you only pay for it if you decide to publish it.
Cons
Very basic automation
Flodesk’s automation is limited to single-trigger workflows (“when a subscriber is added to a segment”) and lacks advanced functionality. While this simplicity can work for many users, it probably won’t meet the needs of business owners who could use more complex triggered emails and sequences.
Limited integrations
Flodesk allows integrations with third-party apps through their application programming interface (API), which can be a bit too complicated for most users. However, it does allow you to connect to thousands of apps via Zapier, which should be enough for many.
No free plan
For the email marketing tool, only a 14-day free trial is available. They do announce a free plan in their pricing section, but this actually refers to a landing page feature (specifically, to create a “Link in bio” page).
Limited customer support
Unlike most tools out there, Flodesk only offers email support and there’s no chat or phone support available.
Expensive compared to alternatives
Flodesk’s flat-rate pricing was a rarity in the industry, but it’s unfortunately no longer available to new users. Its new tier-based pricing is pricey compared to competitors, particularly if you’re looking to set up multiple workflows, and sell digital products and newsletter subscriptions directly from the platform.

You value design and simplicity
If all you want is to quickly set up beautiful emails that are easy to customize without complicated editing, Flodesk has got you covered. It is ideal for those who prioritize simplicity in their email marketing efforts and want an easy-to-use platform with a minimalist interface.
If you need third-party integrations that are essential for your business operations and you can’t find them on Zapier, or you don’t want to integrate them through coding, Flodesk is not the best choice.
You have a small list
If you don’t have many subscribers or don’t plan to grow your list quickly, a tool that offers a free email marketing plan might be a better idea to get started.
Rating Details
Ease of Use
Flodesk’s clean interface is a breath of fresh air in a world of complex email tools. Its premade templates, original layouts, and minimalist editor and menus are very beginner-friendly. However, a “Get Started” tour or checklist would be helpful.
Editor Info popup
Though the email editor is not a drag-and-drop, it is still pretty smooth and intuitive, allowing users to create visually appealing emails effortlessly. While some users may wish there were further options for customization for certain layouts, the simplicity is exactly what makes it so uncomplicated.
One feature we would like to see is a media library that saves previously uploaded images. This would save users from having to re-upload images every time.
Personalization Info popup
Flodesk offers basic personalization options, allowing customization of email content based on subscriber data such as first name or even custom data. Dynamic content isn’t possible, though.
Message Types
Marketing emails
Transactional emails
SMS
Web push
Mobile push
Live chat / conversations
Supports newsletters and simple automated workflows triggered when a subscriber joins a specific segment. However, it’s lacking some message types you commonly see in other tools, such as A/B tests and RSS-to-email.
Choice and Flexibility of Template Designs Info popup
This is where Flodesk truly shines. It offers 80+ beautifully designed, customizable templates that can match your brand’s aesthetics (and a brand kit for uploading logos, colors and fonts makes this even easier). You can also easily filter templates to find the perfect one for different types of emails, such as ‘Make Money,’ ‘Say Thanks,’ ‘Welcome,’ ‘Plain Text,’ and much more.
The only con is that you can’t upload your own HTML templates, but Flodesk certainly takes a lot of the work out of making your emails look great.
Email Marketing Automation Info popup
Flodesk’s automation features are a bit basic. Users are limited to simple trigger-based workflows such as welcome sequences and other segment-specific emails. There’s no web tracking, lead scoring, or split testing functionality.
The Link Action feature allows you to automatically segment subscribers, add or remove them from workflows, or tag them with custom fields whenever they click a link. However, you can’t actually activate Link Actions within the workflow editor. Instead, you need to set them up when editing your email, which is a little different to how other ESPs approach this.
If you need more complex automation features, ActiveCampaign or Brevo should be a better fit.
It’s easy to upload .csv files, or pull contacts from a Shopify or Squarespace store with just a few clicks. However, Flodesk offers only basic segmentation and list management capabilities, such as moving or deleting subscribers individually or in bulk. You can’t go much further – e.g. it’s not possible to create filters or tags, or organize lists/workflows based on a subscriber’s behavior, demographics or lead scores.
Finding and removing inactive contacts also requires you to build segments of unengaged subscribers manually – many other tools we’ve tested make this process much easier.
Registration Forms/ Opt-in & Opt-out- Process Info popup
Flodesk offers stunning templates for all kinds of forms – embedded, popup, link in bio, and even wheel of fortune-type forms. The visual editor makes it easy to change text, fields, and images, although note that it’s not super flexible when it comes to customizing your layout.
We like that you can easily create and set up single or double opt-in processes, and add custom fields. Flodesk’s editor also provides pre-made text for opt-out sections, so you can choose the tone that best fits your brand and include (and edit) this in your email with a single click.
However, you can’t add CAPTCHA to your forms, or edit the CSS. There aren’t any form A/B testing features, either.
With Flodesk’s “Checkout” feature, you can set up product pages to sell digital products, newsletters, and memberships. The great news is it doesn’t charge any transaction fees, either – you just have to pay the industry-standard Stripe processing fee.
Deliverability Features Info popup
Flodesk provides a few basic features to help maximize deliverability. This includes help with authenticating your emails, automatic suppression of bounces and unsubscribes, domain warming guidance, and tools to help remove inactive subscribers.
While Flodesk does provide a “deliverability chart”, this shows the rate of email delivery (total emails minus bounced emails), rather than the true deliverability rate (the percentage that ended up in inboxes instead of spam). It also lacks a FBL data loop and a dedicated deliverability team to provide support.
Authentication Info popup
Users can verify a domain (DKIM, SPF, DMARC) in Flodesk via their integration with Entri and they offer a step-by-step guide to help.
Reports and Analysis
Reporting features provide essential metrics, as well as some more advanced analytics, including a heatmap for the best day to send your emails, and reporting around your form and Checkout conversions. However, it lacks some of the more advanced reports you find in other platforms – for example, click heatmaps or custom reports. It also doesn’t filter out bot clicks or Apple MPP opens, which could skew your results.
Languages and Localization Info popup
The platform and support are only available in English, limiting accessibility for non-English speaking users. We were also disappointed at the lack of localization-friendly features, such as automated/AI-powered translations or “smart sending” based on timezone or country.
Spam and Design Testing Info popup
Basic design testing is available, but there are no built-in spam testing or email client preview tools.
Own Tracking Domain in Email Links Info popup
Flodesk does not allow you to create your own tracking domain for email links or use your own domain for landing/form pages. You can, however, customize the subdomain for your landing page and forms URLs, which will look like this: mysubdomain.myflodesk.com
Different levels of account access Info popup
Depending on your plan, you can add between 1-2 additional users and grant them admin, manager or editor permissions.
Integrations
There are only 13 direct integrations with tools like Shopify, Squarespace, and Instagram. However, Flodesk allows other third-party integrations through Zapier and Pabbly Connect. Also, a more complex solution is to use Flodesk API, which allows you to integrate third-party apps via code. If you’re not familiar with coding, you’d need to consider hiring a developer to help with this.
Landing Page Builder Info popup
Flodesk offers an easy-to-use forms editor, including full page designs that are fully customizable. The Checkout feature also provides you with sales page templates to sell and deliver your digital products. These can also be used to capture signups for freebies and lead magnets.
Migration Support
Unfortunately, deliverability consultation and priority support are only on the highest-tier Custom plan. If you’re migrating from another tool and need some support, we’d recommend alternatives like Kit or GetResponse.
Customer Support
While the help center is thorough, personal support is only through email during weekday hours. While it seems pretty responsive (I had a reply the same day when I needed it), Flodesk still lacks chat or phone support for immediate assistance.
Overall rating
3.3
Flodesk can be a great choice for those who appreciate simplicity and attractive design in their email marketing. With an easy-to-use editor and beautiful templates, it suits basic email needs for solopreneurs and small businesses focused on digital products. However, it falls short for those needing advanced automation, list management, or multi-language support.
A More Detailed Look at Flodesk’s Top Features
We have highlighted through this article all that Flodesk has to offer, but let’s take a closer look now at its pro features.
Interface, Templates and Editor
The top feature that draws users to Flodesk is its stunning, aesthetically-pleasing approach. The platform offers a clean interface paired with beautiful designs. This, combined with their minimalist and intuitive editor, makes creating campaigns an enjoyable, fun experience. It’s very easy to get started and create your emails – you won’t have to navigate through complicated menus or feel overwhelmed by options.
Flodesk provides a nice range of beautiful, customizable email templates, ideal for engaging campaigns. In their template library, you can filter templates based on your campaign goals.
For example, under the “Make Money” category, you’ll find excellent template options for simple countdown offers, gift guide roundups, coupon codes, event registrations, and much more.
Flodesk templates: great options depending on your email goal
Automated Workflows + Link Action
When I first started using Flodesk, I found their automation options to be quite basic. So basic, in fact, that I thought I must be missing something. However, for a long time, that really was all there was. Flodesk only offered simple workflow sequences triggered by a single event: “when a subscriber is added to a segment.”
The good news is that Flodesk recently launched a new automation feature called Link Action, aiming to improve its automation capabilities.
With Link Actions, you can now add automations to any link in your emails. This allows you to organize subscribers into segments or workflows based on which links they click, making your email marketing more personalized and efficient. And it’s pretty easy to use: you can add a link action to any link in your Flodesk emails, and you can automatically segment subscribers, trigger workflows, or apply custom tags.
These features are indeed basic for some users, but they could still be just right for many others.
Conclusion
As a personal fan of Flodesk, I recommend it to creators, solo entrepreneurs, and small businesses wanting to send eye-catching emails, with very little effort.
Flodesk claims to be the most intuitive email marketing tool out there, and I certainly agree that its user-friendliness and visuals are great for beginners. It’s a nice, simple tool that allows you to send beautiful campaigns, track their performance, and create simple automations with ease.
While some might see its simplicity as a drawback, it’s exactly this (combined with its beautiful designs!) that makes it perfect for those who want to keep their email marketing efforts simple while making a great impression.
That being said, it does lack more complex features regarding automation and integrations, for example.
It’s also a shame that Flodesk no longer offers flat-rate pricing. In fact, its new subscriber-based plans make them pricier than other creator-focused tools, especially if you’re looking to monetize your content.
But if you like the idea of creating beautiful emails with minimal fuss, and aren’t looking to sell digital products or newsletters, Flodesk could be the perfect choice for you!

Mailchimp: If you are considering Mailchimp as an alternative to Flodesk, be aware that its prices escalate much quicker. While Mailchimp does offer a free plan, its features are very limited and it only supports up to 500 subscribers. For a detailed comparison, check out our “Flodesk vs. Mailchimp” article.
Kit: Kit is a good email marketing tool that offers much more powerful automation and subscriber management tools than Flodesk. However, its design options are quite basic, best suited for simple text emails. Additionally, its free plan is restrictive and lacks advanced reporting and integrations. For more insights, see our “Flodesk vs. Kit” article.
MailerLite: MailerLite offers a budget-friendly pricing structure and a free plan for up to 1,000 subscribers. It provides robust automation features and a user-friendly interface, making it a strong competitor. However, its design capabilities are not as visually appealing as Flodesk’s. For a more comprehensive comparison, read our “Flodesk vs. MailerLite” article.
